          Our collaboration starts with understanding the project requirements and client requirements to help Voxel1 BIM develop a detailed technical and commercial proposal.

          A thorough understanding of the client’s expectations will result in scope and deliverable definition done by the Voxel1 BIM team. Some of the key items typically discussed at this stage of the project stage are category, configuration, scale, schedule, milestones, etc.

          Voxel1 team takes lead in communicating the process and timelines with all project stakeholders and organizes the required meetings to get the project kicked off as per the timelines.

          All project-specific milestones and delivery timelines are defined and mutually agreed upon as part of the contracting stage. Voxel1 BIM team deploys additional resources based on the project requirements to ensure timely delivery.

TECHNOLOGY

Technology plays a major role in a BIM work-flow. Without having the right set of software features and hardware to complement the same, BIM process will prove to be more cumbersome and less efficient than a traditional 2D work-flow.

Selection Criteria

Many software vendors are currently developing BIM capable tools claiming to increase the productivity offering all the benefits of implementing BIM for a project. Although there is a vast number of tools currently available in the market, it is important to consider several aspects before deciding on a particular software for a BIM use. Involving external teams and all project stake holders in the decision making process will help identify any interoperability and data communication issues early in the process.

Some of the important issues to consider while deciding on the right BIM tool for the organizational level BIM implementation are;

Target BIM Use – Right software for the right purpose.

Life Cycle coverage – Identifying a software vendor with a suite of products to cover the tools required for most of the project life cycle will be beneficial.

Support – With the steep learning curve involved in implementing BIM, having a solid support team to quickly resolve technical issues will go a long way.

Pilot Projects.

Resources – Hiring a resource with experience in a specific BIM software is a difficult process. Identifying the tool that has abundant resources available in the industry is ideal. Look out for the educational programs and student trainings provided by the particular software vendor.

Learning curve – Implementing BIM requires the staff to learn new tools. Identifying a software that is closer to the traditional user interface will help minimize the learning curve.

Interoperability – Developing BIM models that are accessible only by a specific software is highly discouraged in the market as it goes again the concept of BIM. Look for tools that support OpenBIM.

File Size Management – BIM Model files are generally heavier than the traditional 2D Drawings. However, finding the right tool that has features to manage heavy data is important.

However, as a first step, it is important to understand the various kinds of BIM tools that are currently made available in the industry.
