Level of Detail definitions are often confused with BIM dimensions. It is important to note that LOD standards help define the extent of 3d vs. data information incorporated into models at any stage (dimensions).
100
LOD 100 models consist of overall building massing in 3D with detail planning parameters required at the conceptual stage of a project.
200
LOD 200 models consist of detail building models with accurate sizes in 3-D to help analyze and generate high-level quantities and sizes as required. They also require certain information in 2D / data format to be able to develop initial design intent drawings such as floor-plans, elevations, sections etc with appropriate tags.
300
LOD 300 models contain information in 3D and 2D to the extent to be able to generate tender documentation for the project. These models are generally using during the design coordination activities.
400
LOD 400 models that contain adequate information regarding fabrication, construction process , on-site assembly etc in both 3D and 2D. These models are referred by the on-site team to understand and monitor the construction activities for accuracy.
500
LOD 500 are models with enough 3D and 2D information with manufacturing details, specifications, product numbers etc that are generally used during facility management and renovation activities.
