While a BIM Manager is responsible for both organizational and project level BIM Activities, a BIM Coordinator is usually dedicated to one or more projects at a time. Having to manage project specific BIM activities that are usually time intensive with tight deadlines, a BIM Coordinator is one of the most important roles in any BIM project.
A BIM Coordinator should have strong communication skills with deep technical expertise in the software also in the BIM System developed within the organization. Beyond having experience in working with BIM methodologies, this role also requires general understanding of all aspects / disciplines involved in a building project to help coordinate with all project stake holders.
Key Responsibilities - BIM Coordinator
Key responsibilities of a successful BIM Coordinator include;
To support the BIM Manager and with the development of the BIM System, templates and standards for the organization.
Document and manage the project execution plans for the selected BIM Projects.
Hand-hold and monitor the project BIM Modeling teams for best practices and standards.
Develop project specific BIM library while following the organizational BIM library standards.
Manage the BIM coordination process with other disciplines and project stake holders.
Manage the file sharing procedures with all project stake holders in the right data formats.
Frequently run the Quality Analysis and Quality Check procedures on the selected projects and document.
Identify any issues within the BIM mythology during the project activities and propose adjustments to the BIM Manager.
Be the single point of contact for all project specific BIM issues for both internal and external parties.
